Know before you drive to the smog station.

DashBoost reads the readiness monitors your state’s inspection actually checks: misfire, fuel system, catalyst, oxygen sensor and heater, EGR, evaporative. Then it tells you plainly whether you’re ready or need a few more drive cycles.

No network stack

It never phones home.

Not “we respect your privacy”. There are no accounts, no analytics, no crash reporter, no ads and no servers of ours. Your dashboards, your logs and your runs stay on your device. Only the map screen goes online, and that talks to Apple Maps.

A car built after 1996

US cars from 1996, EU petrol from 2001 and diesel from 2004 have an OBD-II port, under the dash on the driver’s side.

A Bluetooth OBD-II adapter

Sold separately, roughly $20–40. Bluetooth LE only. The Wi-Fi adapters won’t work.

iPhone or iPad, iOS 16.2+

Portrait or landscape, on both.

Which adapters work?
Bluetooth Low Energy adapters of the common ELM327 type. Plug it in, open a dashboard, press the blue Connect button. There’s no pairing dance and nothing to configure. Wi-Fi adapters are not supported.
Will it work on my car?
If it has an OBD-II port, yes, but not every car reports every channel. Speed, revs, coolant, fuel and throttle are near-universal. Boost, MAF, oil temperature and timing advance are optional in the standard, so some cars simply don’t send them.
Why is one of my gauges reading zero?
Almost always because your car doesn’t report that channel. DashBoost retries a quiet channel periodically rather than giving up on it, so if it’s briefly unavailable it will come back on its own. If it stays at zero, swap that slot for a channel your car does send.
How accurate is the horsepower figure?
It’s an estimate, not a dyno number. DashBoost derives it from mass airflow (roughly 10 hp per lb/min of intake air) and gets torque from horsepower and revs. It ignores drivetrain loss, air-fuel ratio and volumetric efficiency. On cars with no MAF sensor it falls back to a revs-and-throttle proxy so the gauge still moves. Treat it as a trend, not a certificate.
Do I need an internet connection?
No. Diagnostics, dashboards, datalogs and timed runs all work with the phone in airplane mode. The map screen needs data, because maps do.
Is there a subscription?
No subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads.
Can I export my datalogs?
Every log is a plain CSV with ten columns: time, speed, revs, throttle, fuel pressure, air-fuel ratio, exhaust temperature, timing, oil temperature and boost. Share it anywhere a file can go, or open it in a spreadsheet.
